Focusing less on monetization and making money, especially this early

Hello,
My name is Jesse, and I am a new member to this community.

I am just as excited as everyone else, however, I have a very bad feeling about how much the administration of this site seems to push the "money making" side of the site, and by extension, a rather large part of the Hytale fan-base.
What a game needs in the beginning is a strong community, which has already begun to form - however, too much early monetization and the pushing of the idea that you can make money from this game will kill this community just as it (arguably) caused toxification of the Minecraft community (and don't get me wrong, I do recognize the greatly different dynamics of these two games and communities, but this can happen to any game, especially with ones that can be modified to such a heavy extent).
I don't want to be overly nostalgic or dwell too much on the past, (as the past is the past and does not change) but I remember when the Minecraft community was so, for lack of a better term, good. People had good hearts, traded Minecraft related items with each other, helped each other out, and donated to the sites and projects they loved out of good heart, not the want or need for a new flashy rank. Then sites such as MCM came along around 2013-2014 and really supported the idea that you could make money from the game. This caused Mojang to freak out a little bit and start to really enforce the EULA, which made server owners mad because they couldn't afford to live off of their server's income - and maybe rightfully so, but that is a discussion for another time. Regardless, this caused a decline - maybe not a death, but certainly a decline - in the communities quality.
What I'm really trying to get at here is that a community is like a baby. Raised properly with good ethics and proper dicipline, it can grow to balance success in it's adult life with kindheartedness. Raised poorly, spoiled, and pampered and you have a very greedy person that wants nothing more than to make another buck. I think that people truly dedicated to the success of this game will want the former, and so I formally suggest to the administration of this forum to focus more on the quality of the community rather than focusing so much on the fact that you can make "real" money from selling Hytale related things, because really, it's all just a bit childish.

I'm truly intrigued to hear what the community thinks, so please do respond with any questions or additional thoughts, and let's hope that we can all enjoy a happy experience with the game we are all so excited for.

Regards,
Jesse

Additional side note: I am in no way trying to demonize anyone who is staff on and/or helping run this site - I'm simply expressing my opinion about the direction the site is headed in.

I like the points you make In this post. I agree with the money-making aspect, however I think that’s mostly to increase popularity in the site’s early stages (you can back me up or correct me, staff). I think the giveaways may decline as this website gains members.
History does tend to repeat itself, but if we are careful this time, hopefully it won’t!

Well said... I agree, especially with the fact that history repeats itself, because it does and I certainly hope we can prevent this from happening.

95% of this site's features and functionality are 100% free. Anything you can purchase here is almost exclusively cosmetic-based. All earnings go towards financing the site's continued development and operational expenses.

I don't really agree with what you said, but everyone has its own opinion. Money making is essential of Hytales succes. For me I run a host where people can buy servers from. Obviously this is not free as hardware costs a lot of money. This is why server owners charge money for ranks and other things on their server. Some servers (like Hypixel) earn hundreds of thousands of dollars every year. This forum is 100% community driven so if developers feel they want to charge money for the work they do they can. If they want to offer it for free that's possible as well. Looking at Spigot, over 90% of the plugins there are free with many free alternatives for paid plugins. Of course this forum requires money as well which is earned by showing ads on the site and relies on people donating. Think about a xenforo license alone, that already costs well over $150. Making money of Hytale is something that Hypixel studios, creators of Hypixel, allow as thats exactly how the game studio started relying, 100% on donations on the Hypixel server.

This post had absolutely nothing to do with the funding of this site. This post was purely regarding things like the slogan ( ) that emphasize the possiblity to earn money on the site. All I see this doing is diluting the quality of the community with immaturity and greediness.

I understand that hosts need to make money, but that's not what I'm trying to get at. Encouraging and pushing ideas of monetization will draw in people that will not contribute properly to the community, inspiring a general trend of watered down, commercial content that is over priced just because it can be.

To be clear, I'm perfectly fine with people charging money for their work, so long as it's reasonably priced and of high quality. I'm also fine with this site charging for ranks with additional features if they wish - I understand that XenForo (while there are, in my opinion, better/cheaper alternatives) is very expensive, and so is reliable hosting for a site such as this.

I think it is good to get a small amount of money by making this forum. This way, they can make a Server on Hytale or grow this community!

I think HytaleHub can do a lot of good, and even better, than the MC community and the marketplace around it by reflecting on the market. Seeing the design and vision of this site, it's clear that people are not only going to use this site for fan-based news and information regarding Hytale but a place where people like graphic designers, software developers, influencers and influencer managers, etc. can make some income.

This website is going to have to monetize to keep up its operation. Because not only is this site running, but there are two server lists in the works as well as hosting. Plus a future Hytale server. Costs will add up. Software developers, DDoS mitigation, server hosting, brand deals, etc. So making income and a profit and the way the site is being monetized, as professionally as it is, is showing us that HH is committed to providing the best experience to the end user.

Now I will circle back to where I started. And that is I hope HytaleHub reminds themselves of where things went right and wrong with the Minecraft community and the marketplace. Now people will always be greedy, scam, etc. It's just the way the world works. But by nurturing an actual community of people who want to enjoy the game and make money from the game to do good, we all together can do a lot of good for the Hytale community. There will be drama, but as long as transparency and the will to put the community first is put on a pedestal, everything else will fall in place.

I do have high hopes for Hytale. And I look forward to playing a part in its growth and success. I'm sure a lot of us can say the same.

I think the marketplace aspect is an important part of the community but so far I haven't seen much monetization on this site and I think it should remain that way with users being able to sell and share while the site itself stays out of it as that helps form a sense of community but regarding hytalehub I think they are doing a great job considering other sites , discord servers etc are already profiting from a game that isn't even out yet while hytale hub has had minimal monetization to none hope some of that ramble made sense

.
but at the same time i do believe hytale hub will need to monetize in some way just afford the quality of this site they just need to be careful how they do that

Once again, I'm not referring to purchasable ranks or roles within this forum, rather encouragement of the money making aspect of Hytale.

This was very well put. Again, I understand the costs associated with running a website or online forum, but I feel that the emphasis put on earning will encourage overcharging and even scamming amongst community members and deals completed on this site. I also understand that HytaleHub is doing a much better job than many other unofficial community sites at being modest and not so money hungry.

As a developer, I know I will certainly take advantage of the opportunity to put website templates for sale in the resources category, but I personally would never consider overcharging or scamming people. The larger emphasis on the market place, while I appreciate the need for one, will encourage toxicity and, by extension, an overall lower quality in content produced by community members. I do have an idea on how to prevent at least some of these things without taking away from the marketplace, which will be put in a suggestion at a later date (still writing it up).

Overall, I too am excited for Hytale, and I hope that we will all learn from history rather than repeat it.

Without competitiveness there is no progress.

having more developer's would only make the game prosper faster, if there is something to gain, developer's would gladly take time to make things.

More money equals more developers that equals more and better plugins making the game more enjoyable.

Hytale is full of diversity unlike minecraft, it just mean's that there are ton's of different possibilities, and for these possibilities to be displayed there need's to be more developers.
