Hello,
My name is Jesse, and I am a new member to this community.
I am just as excited as everyone else, however, I have a very bad feeling about how much the administration of this site seems to push the "money making" side of the site, and by extension, a rather large part of the Hytale fan-base.
What a game needs in the beginning is a strong community, which has already begun to form - however, too much early monetization and the pushing of the idea that you can make money from this game will kill this community just as it (arguably) caused toxification of the Minecraft community (and don't get me wrong, I do recognize the greatly different dynamics of these two games and communities, but this can happen to any game, especially with ones that can be modified to such a heavy extent).
I don't want to be overly nostalgic or dwell too much on the past, (as the past is the past and does not change) but I remember when the Minecraft community was so, for lack of a better term, good. People had good hearts, traded Minecraft related items with each other, helped each other out, and donated to the sites and projects they loved out of good heart, not the want or need for a new flashy rank. Then sites such as MCM came along around 2013-2014 and really supported the idea that you could make money from the game. This caused Mojang to freak out a little bit and start to really enforce the EULA, which made server owners mad because they couldn't afford to live off of their server's income - and maybe rightfully so, but that is a discussion for another time. Regardless, this caused a decline - maybe not a death, but certainly a decline - in the communities quality.
What I'm really trying to get at here is that a community is like a baby. Raised properly with good ethics and proper dicipline, it can grow to balance success in it's adult life with kindheartedness. Raised poorly, spoiled, and pampered and you have a very greedy person that wants nothing more than to make another buck. I think that people truly dedicated to the success of this game will want the former, and so I formally suggest to the administration of this forum to focus more on the quality of the community rather than focusing so much on the fact that you can make "real" money from selling Hytale related things, because really, it's all just a bit childish.
I'm truly intrigued to hear what the community thinks, so please do respond with any questions or additional thoughts, and let's hope that we can all enjoy a happy experience with the game we are all so excited for.
Regards,
Jesse
Additional side note: I am in no way trying to demonize anyone who is staff on and/or helping run this site - I'm simply expressing my opinion about the direction the site is headed in.
